SOMETHING ABOUT FRAGRANCES

There is a theory that only around 10% of the impressions you leave on someone are related to the words that come out of your mouth. The rest of it is based on your body language and appearance. The fragrance is just as important as an accessory in the completion of your appearance as it lifts your aura and boosts your confidence, which speaks to your body language. It also lets people know more about you without your saying a word. Most times, their knowledge is based on a quick, simple whiff as you walk by. With a good scent, you can leave a long-lasting sensory impression on the people who engage with you. This is why picking a signature fragrance should be done meticulously.

Your perfume doesn’t only improve how you smell. Beyond its ability to introduce you to people, scent can also affect your mood and that of the people around you. This is because the sense of smell is closely linked with memory and every scent can be linked to a particular experience or feeling by the brain.

“Odors have a power of persuasion stronger than that of words, appearances,

emotions, or will. The persuasive powers of an odor cannot be fended off, it enters into us like breath into our lungs, it fills us up, imbues us totally. There is

no remedy for it.” – Patrick Suskind, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Picking your signature scent can be an unnerving ordeal. When you first approach a perfume counter, the only information you have is how the bottles look. The process of picking a scent from a huge selection might prove to be counter-productive as you can get confused after sniffing too many scents. However, with a little research before selection, you may be able to streamline your options and pick a scent that you love.

This research should start with considering the things that make you feel good and what they look and smell like. Think about specific smells that you enjoy, especially in your daily life. You may then go on to think about what type of fragrance you prefer; is it mild or strong? Floral or Musky? Knowing factors like this will make it easier to select a scent you enjoy, that reflects your personality.

Another reason why fragrance is important is its benefits to health and well-being. According to Stephen Watkins, a fragrance application scientist for Givaudan, the world’s largest flavor and fragrance company, “By choosing to wear a fragrance, people are tapping into a way to enhance their well-being and self-esteem.”

Research has also shown that scent-triggered mood lifts can be indirectly linked to physiological improvements too. This logic is based on the fact that scent can lift moods and being in a better mood allows the immune system to function more effectively. So fragrance can be a two-step way to influence health.

A person’s scent most times is made up of the combination of their natural scent, their daily use products, and their perfume. If you use scented soaps, shower gels, and oils on your skin, they will contribute greatly to your overall smell, giving you a generally Fresh fragrance. This combination gives you an original scent that becomes your unique signature fragrance and eventually a part of your reputation.

Your reputation will always be based on how you are remembered at given points in time. And since how you smell is a huge part of that, having an attractive scent is always going to be hugely important. The little details like this will forever make a difference in how you are perceived and remembered, so it is key that you make every effort to be remembered for good!
